Belgium

At long last Belgium, it seems, has come of age. This little country recently celebrated its 175th anniversary of independence and, following several years of big, bold moves to shake off a mousy image, life is now on a pretty even keel. This slow-burning country has more history, art, food and architecture packed into its tiny self than many of its bigger, louder neighbours.

I couldn’t have imagined that I would experience the things I experienced and meet the people I met. I learnt so many of life’s lessons that cannot be taught at any school or institution in the world! I learnt to go with the flow and not let bad experiences get me down. My host family was unreal! They really made me feel welcome and not just a guest. I was actually a part of their family. I am now more focussed on my studies and a lot more globally minded.
