"My exchange was 100% honestly the most awesome, amazing, fun, thrilling, exciting, adventurous thing I have ever done in my life! It opened my eyes to the opportunities and lives of people living in a completely different world to me. It created a passion, sensation and love for seeing the rest of our gorgeous planet. Student exchange gives you a new connection with a new foreign home and a love for some place far away. Left me with all but wanderlust and love." Grace, Exchange Program to Japan

What is it like hosting an exchange student?

"We have had the pleasure of hosting Ines from Germany for 10 months.

We have used this time together to explore places we never would have been before and share experiences that were once in a lifetime!

In Tasmania we hiked the Three Capes Track and pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones.

We saw wombats and Tasmanian devils and wallabies and so much wildlife.

We have loved having Ines be part of our family for a short time but she'll always be a part of the James Family for a life time.

Who would have thought we would come across a koala drinking from our farm dam? and that it would let us get up close and personal... You can't get that in the city! Truly memorable shared experiences - that's why we love having exchange students join our family. It makes us live life to the fullest!" The James Family

Experience a new culture at home

Host families wanted in July & August 2019

We are looking for families in Australia and New Zealand who are willing to welcome an overseas exchange student into their home for 3, 5 or 10 months in 2019. Hosting an exchange student can be a truly rewarding experience. It allows a family to experience a foreign culture first hand, be exposed to a new language at home, pass on a bit of their own culture and develop friendships that last a lifetime!

Arriving in New Zealand in July

Timon is a 16 year old student from Germany. His favourite subjects at school are maths and physics. He tells us he is intrigued to find out about how the New Zealand culture differs from the German culture. He looks forward to meeting the people and improving his English. In his free time, Timon likes to go gliding and is working towards his gliding licence. He also enjoys engaging in German politics, bike riding, playing video games, hanging with family and friends and playing the guitar. Timon describes himself as open-minded, honest and laid back. At home, he helps by keeping his room tidy, grocery shopping, mowing the lawns and doing the dishes.

Arriving in Australia in August

Leonardo is a 15 year old student from Germany who also speaks Italian. His favourite subjects are Natural Sciences and Maths. At school, Leonardo volunteers to help with First Aid and preparing a variety of meals. In his spare time, he enjoys playing many summer and winter sports, fishing , cooking with his family and meeting up with friends. While in Australia, Leonardo is excited to see some native animals, enjoy the climate and nature plus improve his English. He describes himself as independent, relaxed, calm and humorous. At home, he helps with the cooking and looking after the family dog.

Elena is a 17 year old Italian student who also speaks German and French. Her favourite subjects at school are foreign languages. In her free time, Elena enjoys listening to music, dancing and hanging with her friends. She does Crossfit a few times per week and tells us she likes to keep active. While in Australia, she is looking forward to changing her habits and experiencing a new culture, try surfing and cook some Italian food for her Host family. Elena describes herself as friendly, open-minded, easy going, happy and helpful. At home, he helps set and clear the table, cook and walk the family pets.

You can view more profiles of students arriving soon from our website. Please note that this is just a handful of the students who will be arriving. "A life time of memories. Each student has given us many memories to cherish, and an album of photos to remember all the happy times we shared." Pauline, Host Mum to many exchange students

"Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in yours; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones that would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what." Melissa, Host Mum to Chiara from Germany
