Regulations on Student Exchange Programs

Student Exchange Australia New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation that is registered with regulatory authorities around Australia and with the Ministry of Education in NZ. We are also a member of both the Council of Australian Student Exchange Organisations (CASEO) and the New Zealand Council for Intercultural Education (NZCIE).

We are the first and only secondary exchange organisation in the world to be certified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and we ensure the highest standards of care and support to our participants. You can view our Child Safety and Quality Management policy from here.

We understand that there are a lot of organisations that market various types of programs. Many of those organisation are not registered or approved to operate student exchange programs and, as such, have not met the stringent quality and regulatory requirements laid down by the authorities.

There are significant risks in working with non-registered organisations. CASEO have developed a leaflet than can be downloaded from their website CASEO believe it is vitally important that people can make an informed choice about which organisation you decide to either host an overseas students or send your own child on exchange with.

If in doubt as to the bona-fides of an organisation, their credentials can be verified with the regulatory authority in your state/territory or the Ministry of Education in NZ. You can view the list of registered organisations from the websites listed below:

Regulations governing exchange programs in Australia prohibit payment of host families. The programs operate on a reciprocal basis that allows Aussie and Kiwi students to benefit from the same opportunities overseas. These programs help promote international understanding and good will. Our not-for-profit status is also a regulatory requirement and means that our accounts are audited by an independent auditor each year and lodged with regulatory authorities.
