Germany wears its riches well: elegant big-city charm, small picture-postcard towns, pagan-inspired harvest festivals, a wealth of art and culture and the perennial pleasures of huge tracts of forest, delightful castles and fine food and culture are all there for the savouring. Enjoying the outdoors, from skiing Alpine peaks to hiking carefully preserved forests, is essential.
I would say it was a great experience. I started off with insufficient German skills but picked them up to a fluent stage. I met so many people and learnt a lot about another country and about myself. I learned to respect many more things and gained a better look on life.

Important Program Information
Please note that
- Students accepted for Germany need to have a basic knowledge of the German language. Students must have studied German for at least 1 year prior to program start date to be able to follow lessons in German schools. A 2 week language program is available at additional cost for August departures only.
- Arrival orientation held in Mannheim at an additional cost for January and August arrivals.
The Give Back Exchange Fund will provide 120 exchange students across Australia and New Zealand with a grant that will dramatically reduce their program fee. Students will pay only for their flights, insurance, visa application fees and any required airport assistance fees. All other fees will be covered by the Give Back Exchange Fund.
The final deadlines for applications are listed below. There are a limited number of grants available, so don't leave asking your school for a nomination until the last minute.
- 1st March 2020 for August - September 2020 departures
- 31st March 2020 for January 2021 departures
